Winning Philosophy/Mantra
You have to believe you can win. If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else will. You have to know it. There is a great line in the movie “The Matrix.” Morpheus is teaching Neo about the Matrix and during a fight scene he tells Neo, “You’re faster than this! Don’t think you are, KNOW you are.” It’s a great line about positive mental attitude and I use it all the time to motivate myself.
Advice for new shooters:
Don’t try to purchase performance. It’s not about the most expensive firearm or piece of gear. It’s about you. Learn about yourself. Learn your strengths and weaknesses. Learn to develop a proper training regimen. If you go to the range and shoot, you’re just wasting money, time, and ammunition. Develop a proper training regiment and go to the range to practice, not shoot. Your natural skill will only take you so far. At some point you need to make the decision to dedicate yourself to becoming a serious competitor or accept your fate as an average shooter.
Shooting tip to improve your game!
Understand and be thoroughly familiar with their rifle’s zero and cartridge ballistics. Long range rifle is usually what separates the winners from the losers. The stage points lost as a result of poor performance on a long range rifle stage are significant. I have never seen a competitor win their class or division at any match if they performed poorly on the long-range stage. Attempting to hit a 10? steel plate at 400+ yards is tough enough when all of your equipment is dialed in and performing correctly. It’s sheer luck to hit something that small if you don’t have the correct holdover or the correct adjustments dialed-in on the sighting system. To correctly make the adjustments necessary to secure a first-round hit on a target at distance requires the competitor be intimately familiar with their specific sighting systems, their zeroes, and the ballistics of their chosen caliber.
